1000 artistes réunis pendant 10 jours
dans une ville du bassin méditerranéen,
/ parce qu’elle est entièrement dédiéeà des artistes en devenir, la plupart sont
inconnus des médias et professionnels
au moment de leur sélection,
/ en raison du territoire concerné :
l’espace euro-méditerranéen. Il est à noter que la première édition a eu
lieu en 1984 soit près de 10 ans avant la mise en place du processus euroméditerranéen.
/ par son mode d’organisation qui s’appuie
sur un réseau de 73 membres de 21
pays : chaque ville ou pays faisant partie
de l’association BJCEM est responsable
de la sélection des artistes qui représenteront
son territoire.
Vitrine de la jeune création en Méditerranée,
la Biennale - depuis plus de 20
ans - a traversé les villes de Barcelone,
Bologne, Thessalonique, Marseille, Valencia,
Lisbonne, Turin, Rome, Sarajevo,
Naples et Bari [région Puglia en Italie].
La prochaine édition aura lieu du 3 au 12
septembre 2009 à Skopje [Macédoine].
La tentative, en 2007, de traverser la
Méditerranée pour que la Biennale ait
lieu à Alexandrie n’a pas abouti. Mais des
espoirs sont permis pour une édition 2011
sur l’autre rive. Enfin le Comité français
met tout en oeuvre pour imaginer une 16e édition sur notre territoire dans le cadre de
Marseille Provence Capitale européenne de
la Culture 2013.

La 14e édition est organisée par le Comité d’Organisation de la Biennale de Skopje
2009 avec le soutien du Ministère de la
Culture de la République de Macédoine
et la Ville de Skopje et avec le concours
de l’Association Internationale pour
la Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de
l’Europe et de la Méditerranée, fondée en
juillet 2001 à Sarajevo.

Son objectif est de renforcer la collaboration
entre les ministères, les municipalités,
les institutions et les associations culturelles
du bassin méditerranéen afin de
promouvoir la jeune création, les échanges
internationaux et le dialogue au-delà des
frontières politiques et géographiques des
pays de la région euroméditerranéenne.
Elle compte aujourd’hui 73 membres de
21 pays. Ses bureaux sont à Turin. Depuis
juin 2007, Luigi Ratcliff en est le président.
Et Alessandro Stillo, le secrétaire
général depuis sa création en 2001.
La France y est représentée par cinq
membres dont trois font partie du Conseil
de Direction : Espaceculture_Marseille,
Ville de Montpellier, Agglomération
Toulon Provence Méditerranée.

La France sera représentée à la Biennale
de Skopje par 27 productions [48 artistes]
sélectionnées par des jurys de professionnels
dans les 5 territoires membres
de l’association internationale BJCEM :
l’agglomération Toulon Provence Méditerranée,
Espaceculture_Marseille, Seconde
Nature [Pays d’Aix], la Région Provence
Alpes Côte d’Azur et la ville de Montpellier.
L’appel à candidature aux jeunes artistes a été réalisé à l’automne 2008, plus de 300
dossiers ont été reçus.

Si Marseille et Montpellier sont les membres
les plus anciens de ce projet, ils ont été rejoints par l’agglomération TPM et
le Pays d’Aix en 2004 pour participer à la
Biennale de Naples. Puis, la Région PACA
a souhaité s’y investir au moment de la
préparation de la Biennale d’Alexandrie.
Avec cinq membres, un Comité français
a été constitué afin de mutualiser les
moyens, de diffuser au mieux les travaux
des artistes sélectionnés en France, de
défendre certaines ambitions pour l’événement
Biennale : le positionnement
euro-méditerranéen, la jeune création,
la mobilité, l’art contemporain, l’exigence
artistique.

be noted that the first event was held in 1984, nearly ten years before the Euro-
Mediterranean partnership was established.
/ due to its organisation as it depends
on a network of 73 members from 21
countries : each town or country which
is a member of the BJCEM association
is in charge of the selection of the artists
who will represent their territory.
Showcase of young artists in the Mediterranean,
the Biennial has moved through the
cities of Barcelona, Bologna, Thessalonia,
Marseilles, Valences, Lisbon, Turin, Rome,
Sarajevo, Naples and Bari [Puglia region in
Italy]. The next event will take place 3 - 12
September 2009 in Skopje [Macedonia].
The attempt to take the Biennial 2007 across
the Mediterranean to Alexandria did not
succeed. But hope remains that the 2011
event will take place on the other side of
the basin. Finally, the French Committee
is doing its utmost to create a 16th event
on our territory in 2013, the year when
Marseilles Provence will be the European
Capital of Culture.

of Culture of the Macedonian Republic
and the City of Skopje assisted by the
International Association for the Biennial
of Young Artists in Europe and the
Mediterranean, established in July 2001
in Sarajevo.

Its objective is to reinforce the collaboration
between the ministries, municipalities,
institutions and cultural associations in the
Mediterranean basin in order to promote
young artists, international exchange
and dialogue beyond the political and
geographical frontiers of the countries
in the euro-mediterranean region.
Today it consists of 73 members and 21
countries. Its offices are in Turin. Since
July 2007, Luigi Ratcliff is its president and
Alessandro Stillo, the general secretary
since its establishment in 2001. France
is represented by five members, three of
whom are members of the Committee

The French committee
If Marseilles and Montpellier are the
oldest members of this project, they were
joined by the TPM Agglomeration and the
Aix Region in 2004 to participate in the
Naples Biennial. Then, the PACA Region
chose to contribute during the preparation
of the Alexandria Biennial. With five members, a French Committee was set
up to mutualise the resources and to
improve the dissemination of the work
of the artists selected in France and to
defend certain ambitions of the Biennial
event : the Euro-Mediterranean position,
young artists, mobility, contemporary art,
artistic demands. |
