10 klaxons suspendus dans un espace clos déclenchent toute leur puissance à l’approche du spectateur :
c’est Horn Orchestra, première création de la série «Attentat Sonore» élaborée par Younes Baba-Ali ; dispositif à l’aspect sculptural et silencieux… qui produit néanmoins une atmosphère sonore aléatoire et imposante.
Sur trois écrans vidéo, trois mains appuient continuellement sur des stylos bille, produisant dans l’espace d’exposition un clic-clic maniaque et envahissant jusque dans l’espace mental du visiteur : c’est Tic nerveux, une installation vidéo qui finit par nous taper sur les nerfs !
Car l’air de rien notre corps intériorise ses battements obsessionnels… Accroché à une façade, un mégaphone diffuse l’appel à la prière musulman en signal morse selon les horaires rituels : c’est Call for Prayer - Morse, installation dans laquelle l’artiste-ingénieur aborde la question de la religion en transposant le temps
et la culture d’une rive à l’autre, et en décontextualisant l’objet.
Trois pièces fondatrices d’un corpus qui interroge le rapport de l’individu à son environnement familier, les relations art/public et art/institution muséale
par le contournement des codes de monstration de l’œuvre, et questionne la nature et le statut de l’objet. Younes Baba-Ali construit son œuvre à l’aune d’une double culture - d’origine marocaine, il vit en France depuis son enfance - et fonde sa démarche sur un sens aigu de la critique sociale, de manière sous-jacente
et terriblement efficace. Dans un savant dosage d’ironie et de pragmatisme !
10 horns suspended in a closed space are activated to their full power when the spectator approaches : it is Horn Orchestra, the first creation of the series Attentat Sonore elaborated by Younes Baba-Ali ; a device with a sculptural and silent aspect which produces an unpredictable and impressive sound atmosphere.
On three video screens, three hands press constantly on pens ball, producing in the space of the exhibition an obsessive and intrusive click-click in the mental space of the visitor : it is Tic nerveux, this video installation which eventually gets on our nerves !
Because subconsciously, our body interiorizes its obsessional beatings…
Hung on a facade, a megaphone broadcasts the Muslim call to prayer in morse signal in accordance to the proper ritual schedules : It is Call for Prayer - Morse, an installation in which the artist engineer approaches the question of the religion by transposing the time and the culture from a bank to the other one, and decontextualises the object. Three founding pieces of a corpus which interrogates the relationship between the individual and his/her familiar environment,
his/her relation to art/ public and art/institution museum by the bypassing the common codes of viewing work, and questionning the nature and the status of the object. Younes Baba-Ali builds work of a double culture - of Moroccan origin, he has been living in France since his childhood - and founds his process with a great sense of social awareness and criticism in a underlying and terribly effective way. With a known dose of irony and pragmatism !
